Support with lecture registrations
For all Biology, Chemistry and MBLS courses, the CPIO provides all desired support at the expense of the programme.
This implies: for a 'standard recording in a large lecture hall:
- Instruction on site if desired
- Post-editing (cutting ends, breaks), metadata (including title, speaker) and publishing the recordings
For a different type recording:
- In smaller rooms: lend a voice recorder and put sound under the video
- When using a board (in smaller rooms): borrow a video camera to record this and also add it to the video
- For Teams recordings: upload to the video platform, with necessary post-processing due to student visibility
Approximately two weeks before the start of the course, the course coordinators of the mentioned courses receive an email with the request to indicate whether support is desired, and if so, to provide a schedule with teacher and subject per lecture . This helps us plan support.
Once the first recording has been made and is online, the CPIO will send the students of the course a link to the recordings via an announcement in BlackBoard, including a link to instructions on how to best use the recordings when to study.
For other courses at the Faculty of Science, we can support incidental recordings, but for multiple recordings, for example for a course, we have to charge hours.
Post-processing
The post-processing in this example involved:
- Add teacher (Ron Habets)
- Naming (19. Chapter 28: Cortical states, sleep)
- To publish
- Start and end off - this means creating 2 new files
- Split 2-hour recording into two parts (19A and 19B)
- Add the first slide of each piece (this is often skipped with the automatic slide detection)
- Add thumbnail (the first slide, usually the PowerPoint title page, becomes the starting image).
- Discard excess slides (for videos in the recording, a new slide is generated every 2 seconds, in this case 40 excess slides out of 93)
- Publish these two parts and delete the original
Announcement in BlackBoard
Dear students,
As far as possible, the lectures are recorded. Lectures can be found on the video platform in the folder with the following link: https://video.uu.nl/permalink/c1263e29d2b3cm811htp/. We cannot guarantee that all recordings will be successful, but otherwise the aim is to put them online within a day. How you can optimally use the recorded lectures for your studies can be found here: http://www2.projects.science.uu.nl/camtasia/instr/LC_Guide.pdf If you have any problems with the recorded lectures, please contact cpio@uu.nl. There is no point in approaching the teacher about this. Greeting, CPIO |

It cannot be guaranteed that all recordings will be successful, but if they are we try to put them online the same day. It is useless to contact the lecturer about this. Best, CPIO |
